This was my 2nd trip to China, but in a lot of ways, it felt like my first. In 2008, I traveled to China to adopt my daughter so the trip was preplanned with guides and drivers helping us almost daily. This time, it was different. I went off the beaten path to places where foreign tourists rarely travel.
In 20 days, I visited Shanghai, Changchun, Beijing, Huizhou, and Hong Kong. I used subways, light rail, taxis, airlines, high speed rail, buses, and even a 20 hour soft sleeper from the North to the South.
I went to China intending to blog about my language experiences as they happened, but my days were just too busy. Instead, I took notes and will share my experiences here in the coming weeks.
I may not have Crossed the Fluent Line, but hopefully my posts will help others on their own path to language proficiency.
